A major expansion of the airport has been planned
The latest phase in a major planned development of Edinburgh Airport has been completed with the opening of a new 19m terminal extension.

The south east pier project has provided six new boarding gates and more lounge, retail and office space.

The move also aims to cut the number of coach journeys for passengers by half and relieve congestion at peak times.

It is part of a 300m investment project to help the airport meet the demands of rising passenger numbers.

Richard Jeffrey, managing director of the BAA Scotland-operated airport, said: "We are working hard to ensure that we are fit to meet the demands of an ever-increasing number of passengers.

"By helping to ease congestion during our busiest periods, we hope the pier will give travellers a better experience as they travel through our airport.

"Most importantly, it will mean substantially fewer passengers will have to be transported to their plane by bus."
