Drugs dog to patrol club queues
Drugs sniffer dog
Triggs stops and sits in front of anyone carrying drugs
A sniffer dog is to help police scan revellers outside pubs and clubs in Fife as part of an anti-drugs drive.

Springer Spaniel Triggs is Fife Constabulary's first dog to undergo special training to identify people carrying illegal substances.

The unwanted pet was sponsored by the Kirkcaldy club, Kitty McGinty's, to become a "passive scanning drug dog".

The two-year-old bitch stops and sits in front of anyone carrying drugs, allowing officers to search the person.

A spokesman said Triggs, and her handler PC Gary Neolon, would become a major tool in Fife Constabulary's mission to tackle drugs and drug dealing in the area's town centres.

It is the first time in Scotland that sponsorship has enabled a dog to undergo rigorous two-month training with Strathclyde Police.
