New ash cloud means love is not in the air

Many people are travellening south to catch replacement flights

Romance is one of the many casualties of the latest airport closures in Scotland, caused by ash clouds from an Icelandic volcano.

Brides, grooms, lovers and newly-weds are amongst the thousands of passengers affected.

Allan Dick, 53, was meant to fly with 25 other people to Larnaca in Cyprus for his son's wedding but their flight from Glasgow was cancelled.

According to the groom's sister in Cyprus "the bride is in a bit of a panic".

The guests are going to be taken by bus to Newcastle where they hope to take a replacement flight to Cyprus.

Hopeful and optimistic

A couple from Kilmarnock, Judith and Andrew Wilson, married three weeks ago but have had their honeymoon travel plans disrupted by the cancellations.

They were intending to fly to Calgary in Canada for a two-week holiday to the Rockies and Vancouver.

The couple will also take a bus out of Scotland to try to get a replacement flight from Manchester.

Mrs Wilson, 34, said: "Canada is just somewhere we've always wanted to go.

"We heard about the problems yesterday but we're being hopeful and optimistic."

Out of the window

A long weekend break in Paris was how the young lovers Andrew and Jenny planned to spend Jenny's birthday but they have had to cancel their trip because of the volcanic ash cloud.

Andrew said their plans are "kinda out of the window" and they will now just stay with some family in the area and perhaps do some shopping.

Amanda McMillan, managing director of Glasgow airport, said: "We will get updates throughout the day so it's really important for passengers to contact their airlines before making a decision about whether to come to the airport.

"Some airlines have advised that they won't be flying today but some holidaymakers are being bussed to other airports."
