Edinburgh takes top loo crown

The bar will be recognised at a "top loo" ceremony
A bar in Edinburgh has been awarded with having Britain's "ultimate loos".

Bar 38 has won accolades in the past for its luxurious unisex toilets, in which customers are encouraged to socialise as if in any other part of the bar.

There are separate men's and women's toilets - but all that stands between them are two giant glass lenses.

In addition, there is a communal section where two semi-circular sofas provide seating for eight customers - who may take their drinks with them into the loo.

Bar 38 also came top in the Poshest Loo category of the Charmin' Ultimate Loo Awards.

A spokesman said everyone at the bar was delighted at the award - the second such prize in nine months.

"When we first opened it was a big talking point and hopefully this award will renew interest," he said.

"Our toilet is like a social area - a room that is part of the whole bar.

"It's like a meeting point for guys and girls," the spokesman added.

The award is due to be presented on Saturday night during a ceremony at the Savoy Hotel.

Winners from 500 entrants will also receive awards in the cleanest, comfiest and weird and wonderful categories.
