A clan gathering was one of the highlights of Homecoming Scotland
More than 40 events are planned for the finale of Homecoming Scotland over four days around St Andrew's Day. The events - some of which will be free - include concerts, fashion shows, parades and art exhibitions. Homecoming organisers said it would be the largest St Andrew's Day celebration ever seen in Scotland. Eddie Reader, Mike Scott, Evelyn Glennie and Dougie MacLean are among those who will be performing in events across the whole country in November. Homecoming project director Marie Christie said: "All over the country hundreds of individuals and organisations are working hard to make sure that this Homecoming Year presents the most diverse and exciting programme of events ever co-ordinated to mark St Andrew's Day and the spectacular finale of our unique and successful Homecoming Year." There has been some criticism of Homecoming Scotland, with claims that the event has been lacklustre and has done little to win overseas visitors. But is understood the Scottish government is planning another Homecoming , which ran from Burns' Night to St Andrew's Day, to mark the anniversary of Bannockburn in 2014. The end of Homecoming marks the start of the winter festival season in Scotland, which is designed to promote Scotland as a year round tourist destination.
