The man convicted of the 1988 Lockerbie bombing is expected to be released from custody on compassionate grounds next week, the BBC understands.
Abdel Basset Ali al-Megrahi, who has terminal prostate cancer was serving a life sentence for murdering 270 people who died when Pan Am Flight 103 exploded over the Scottish town of Lockerbie.
