New Scottish Labour leader Iain Gray has appointed his two leadership rivals to the party's front bench team.

Cathy Jamieson will take on the health job, while Andy Kerr will tackle finance issues at Holyrood.

North East Scotland MSP Richard Baker has been promoted to justice spokesman, while Jackie Baillie, formerly chief of staff, will return to the backbenches.

Mr Gray said the new team would hold the Scottish Government to account for "failing the Scottish people".

The East Lothian MSP was declared as the new Scottish Labour leader at the weekend, replacing Wendy Alexander.

He saw off challenges from Mr Kerr and Ms Jamieson, both cabinet ministers in the last Holyrood administration.

Margaret Curran, who stood as the Labour candidate in the Glasgow East by-election, won by the SNP, has agreed to direct party policy in the run-up to the next Holyrood election.

"We will continue to hold the SNP administration to account for it's failing in serving the Scottish people," said Mr Gray, who has yet to announce his junior appointments.

"Apart from their ill-thought out and widely criticised flagship policies on local income tax and a Scottish Futures Trust, which will have serious consequences for hard working Scottish families, they are a government that is failing the poorest and most vulnerable with cuts in local services across Scotland."
