'Racetrack' roads clampdown

A police camera catches a speeding biker on Deeside
A major clampdown against motorcyclists who have been using roads as a racetrack is being launched by Grampian Police.

The drive comes after five riders were caught speeding at more than 100 miles-per-hour in the Deeside area over recent weekends.

One was clocked at more than 125mph on the Raemoir Straight on the Garlogie to Torphins road.

The biker was caught by officers using speed detection equipment fitted to traffic cars.

Inspector Brian Shanks, of the Grampian Police Traffic Department, said this kind of behaviour was completely unacceptable.

"It is obvious to us that some bikers are using North-east roads as an unofficial racetrack - two travelling at more than 100 miles an hour were caught by the same speed camera within seconds of each other.

"It is bad enough that these riders are prepared to put their own and others lives at risk by travelling at these kind of speeds without the added danger of racing each other.

"The consequences of their irresponsible and reckless action can be fatal and during the summer months across the whole of the force area, we will be targeting bikers who are prepared to take these risks."
