Inquiry into aircraft alert
Boeing 757
The Boeing 757 crew reported undercarriage problems
An investigation has been launched after a British Airways shuttle with 127 passengers on board was forced to make an emergency landing.

The Boeing 757, which left London Heathrow bound for Edinburgh at 1700 BST on Sunday, landed safely more than an hour later at Glasgow after the crew reported problems with its undercarriage.

Passengers were evacuated from the aircraft via emergency chutes and British Airways said they had "remained calm" during the emergency.

Glasgow Airport
The aircraft landed safely
Sandy Ferrar of Scottish Airports Ltd, which manages both Edinburgh and Glasgow airports, said: "The British Airways Boeing 757 had suspected undercarriage problems and was diverted from Edinburgh to Glasgow Airport.

"It was flying up the central flight path and it was quicker for it to land at Glasgow than travel on to Edinburgh once the suspected problem had come to light.

"The flight landed safely at 1840 BST."

A spokesman for British Airways said: "BA can confirm that the BA 1454 service from London Heathrow to Edinburgh needed a precautionary diversion to Glasgow after a cockpit warning light indicated a possible technical problem.

"The aircraft landed safely but in line with emergency procedures passengers were evacuated via slides.

"None of the 119 passengers and eight crew was injured."

The spokesman confirmed that an investigation into the incident has been launched and added: "The passengers remained calm at all times and the crew performed in a thoroughly professional manner."
