Two-thirds of Scots want troops pulled out of Iraq straight away, a poll for BBC Scotland has suggested.

The survey also indicated narrow support for Britain retaining nuclear weapons.

While the Scottish Parliament has no power on the issues, Iraq and Trident are often raised at Holyrood during First Minister's Questions.

Pollsters ICM surveyed opinion on the issues when they asked 1,001 Scots for their views on devolved priorities.

The results found 66% backed immediate troop withdrawal from Iraq while 31% were against.

The results found women particularly strongly in favour of the armed forces leaving Iraq.

In response, Labour said the election contest would be decided by domestic issues.

The Scottish National Party said it was time to get out of Iraq.

The Liberal Democrats said Iraq raised questions about trust in Labour while the Scottish Conservatives said immediate withdrawal would be a mistake.

The poll also found that 50% of those asked said the UK should continue to have nuclear weapons.

The results found 46% were against the weapons.

The SNP said other polls registered hostility to replacing the Trident system, which is based at the Faslane naval base.

ICM Research interviewed a random sample of 1001 Scottish adults aged 18+ by telephone on 29-31st March 2007. Interviews were conducted across Scotland and the results have been weighted to the profile of all adults. ICM is a member of the British Polling Council and abides by its rules.
