Strikes planned for Scotland's rail network this week and next look set to be suspended following talks. A 48-hour walkout by signal workers last week led to the cancellation of train services across Scotland, causing major disruption.
Following six hours of talks with Network Rail, RMT officials said they would recommend to the union executive that further strikes be suspended.
The row is over proposed changes to the shift patterns of signalling staff.
Both sides left the Glasgow meeting saying that an agreement had been reached.
RMT regional organiser Phil McGarry said: "The issue that sparked the 48-hour industrial action that took place last week has now been resolved and we are making a recommendation that the action is suspended."
The final decision will be taken by the union's executive after it meets local officials on Wednesday.
They are expected to announce on Thursday whether to call off the action or press ahead with the 48-hour strike planned to begin the following day.
The detail of the agreement is still sketchy but it appears that four weeks of local negotiations will now take place to sort out how to implement the 35-hour week.
