Colin Fox said the SSP's conference was a success |
Colin Fox has said he is confident of the Scottish Socialist Party's 2007 election chances, after being returned unopposed as the party's convenor. Speaking at the party's annual conference, he said many had written off the SSP, but just as many scoffed at Scotland's chances against France.
In August, the SSP's Orkney branch had backed a call for Tommy Sheridan to challenge Mr Fox at the conference.
However, Mr Sheridan has since launched the rival political party, Solidarity.
Mr Fox, who has been convenor of the SSP since February 2005, said: "Our conference was a tremendous success, attended by more than 300 delegates.
"We emerge from our conference optimistic about our prospects for the 2007 Scottish election.
"The SSP is the party of the underdogs and will be providing a resounding voice for the low paid, women, young people, pensioners, students, public sector workers, council tenants, unemployed people and trade unionists at next year's elections."
