Staff will begin the move to the �129m five-storey digital broadcast centre on the banks of the River Clyde in 2007.

The 34,000sq m building, which will replace the headquarters on Glasgow's Queen Margaret Drive, was designed by architect David Chipperfield.

It was completed on schedule and on budget and is now ready for the technical fit-out.

BBC Scotland Controller Ken MacQuarrie said: "Our vision for a world class headquarters connecting all of our BBC centres across Scotland and enhancing our visibility to our audiences is nearing reality.

"This magnificent building offers us a unique opportunity to create a working environment which will shape the future of broadcasting, inspire our staff and welcome our audiences to come in and see their BBC."

The building, which was constructed by Bovis Lend Lease, will be the world's first fully digital operation with high definition capabilities.

It also incorporates a 543sq m public reception area, featuring interactive displays and a cafe.

Iain Marley, BBC Scotland Pacific Quay project director, said: "The design quality is stunning but what's even more important is that it has been crafted to meet our specific business requirements.

"State of the art technology, which will be rolled out to all of BBC Scotland's regional centres, will allow us to revolutionise our business processes.
