The plea comes despite the latest statistics showing that the number of young Scots girls having babies has fallen.

Dugald Baird: Pioneer
It is being held to mark the 100th anniversary of maternity care pioneer Dugald Baird.

He won international plaudits for the work he carried out at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital where major improvements were made to care given to expectant mothers and their babies.

Recent figures show a slight fall in the number of teenage pregnancies and healthcare professionals say although that is nothing to be proud of it is an early indicator that new strategies are working.
