The national archives are to inherit a collection of photographs found in an old sideboard that provide a snapshot of life almost a century ago. The pictures, taken by photographer Violet Banks, were discovered by Edinburgh antique dealer John Dixon.
The collection, valued at about �3,000, features images taken across Scotland in the 1920s and 1930s.
They will now be put on public display on the internet and at the National Archives of Scotland in Edinburgh.
Mr Dixon, who runs Georgian Antiques in Leith, found the pictures after buying furniture from a house in the capital.

They range from pictures of attractions like Edinburgh Castle, through to images of a woman spinning tweed on Harris and a postman on horseback on Uist in the Outer Hebrides.
Speaking on behalf of Georgian Antiques, Philip Gregory said: "Mr Dixon took the photos back to where he had bought the furniture and they were happy for him to keep them.
"They were all catalogued in great detail. Now he is giving them to the nation.
"They were taken the length and breadth of Scotland and are a real snapshot of life at that time."
