The play aims to raise awareness of the dangers of underage drinking |
An education tour designed to highlight the dangers of alcohol misuse to young people has started in Moray with a theatre production called "Wasted". CragRats ReAct is an educational organisation using theatre to engage with young people.
Its first performances on Monday took place at Milnes High in Fochabers and Buckie High School.
The programme is targeted at 11 to 14-year-olds and available free. It is now moving to other Moray schools.
It is financed by drinks company Diageo Great Britain and combines hard-hitting theatrical presentations with interactive workshops and dynamic resource materials.
Theatre was chosen as a valuable education medium in order to challenge young people's attitudes and behaviour, encouraging dialogue between the pupils about the issues surrounding alcohol harm.
'Think seriously'
The play forms part of Diageo's wider responsible drinking commitments.
While the company supports the programme, there is no branding or direct involvement with any of the content delivery of its initiatives.
The roll-out of the programme follows an initial pilot last year which reached 23,000 pupils in 156 schools in five main geographical areas across Scotland and England.
The extended tour will now reach an additional 43,000 pupils in over 300 schools.
Lindsay Richards, of CragRats said: "Following the pilot, we received a wealth of great feedback from both teachers and pupils telling us how effective the programme had been in getting young people to think seriously about the issues."
The tour moves to Forres Academy on Tuesday, Lossiemouth High School and Elgin High School on Wednesday and Speyside High School in Aberlour on Friday.
