Engineers are fitting strapping to chamber beams |
Holyrood's damaged chamber roof is being repaired with the help of abseilers, it has emerged. Instead of scaffolding, experts from a rope access team will dangle from the main beams of the roof to tie webbing around the lower struts.
One of the beams swung loose in March prompting safety concerns.
The temporary repair work will allow MSPs back into the chamber in four weeks time. They will continue meeting in a committee room until then.
After the webbing is in place, work on a permanent solution will be carried out over the summer to install new components around the bolts.
A report last month confirmed that the roof was stable and safe to carry out initial work to fix the broken beam.
Engineers decided to secure the beams with temporary straps.
The bracket strapping will be put round the full length of 15 beams which bear tension.
Straps will also be put round the metal brackets of all the 64 beams as an additional precaution.
