Strike action closed many Aberdeen schools last month |
Letters outlining payments to more than 2,000 council workers in Aberdeen are to be send out next week, in a bid to end a long-running equal pay dispute. The proposed settlement is expected to cost about 15m.
Hundreds of workers went on strike last month but called off further action while they waited for an amended offer.
The payments are aimed at compensating low-paid, mainly female, staff by bringing their jobs into line with work of equal value, often done by men.
Some staff could be paid as much as 15,000.
The council said it was the best offer made by any local authority in Scotland.
But unions said it was only 75% of what their members claim they are owed.
The union will hold a meeting next Friday to decide if members will accept the offer or continue with strike action.
About 50 schools in Aberdeen were forced to close at the start of March after the staff held a 48-hour walkout.
The council was originally proposing to give out 13.5m in retrospective pay.
