Winter vomiting hits Arran ferry
Caledonian MacBrayne ferry - generic
Caledonian MacBrayne will run a reduced capacity service
A winter vomiting bug has hit a ferry service to and from the Isle of Arran.

Operator Caledonian MacBrayne confirmed several crew aboard the MV Caledonian Isles were suffering from suspected norovirus infection.

The ship operates on the Ardrossan to Brodick route and will be out of service from 0700 BST on Thursday for about 48 hours for cleansing.

The MV Isle of Arran will provide a reduced capacity, relief service, on the route.

The MV Isle of Arran has about 50% less capacity than the MV Caledonian Isles.

Caledonian MacBrayne said it had tried to keep the public out of contact with staff showing symptoms.

Phil Preston, operations director, said: "We believe there have been cases of this viral infection on-shore.

"Occasionally, outbreaks occur and we must act quickly and effectively to deal with the situation.

"It is regrettable when this leads to some service disruption and loss of capacity but it is vitally important that we act quickly so that the ship can be returned to service as soon as possible."
