Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum will open to the public on 11 July after a 27.9m refurbishment. The flagship attraction was the most popular museum outside London, bringing in a million visitors each year before it closed in June 2003 for a refit.
It is hoped the refurbishment work will lead to an extra 600,000 visitors.
Lord Provost Liz Cameron said: "Kelvingrove houses not only a great collection but also holds so many great memories for the people of Glasgow."
The refit has created an additional 35% of floor space.
This is largely due to access to the basement for the first time.
Egyptian treasures
About 8,000 pieces will be on display, compared to 5,000 before refurbishment.
These include the Spitfire LA198 from the 602 (City of Glasgow) Squadron, the Charles Rennie Mackintosh gallery and a collection of Egyptian treasures.
Dali's painting Christ of St John of The Cross will return from the St Mungo Museum of Religious Life and Art.
Ms Cameron added: "The building will open on time and on budget to deliver a fantastic experience for the huge number of visitors from home and abroad that we expect to come to Kelvingrove."
