Country estate values on the rise

Shooting estates are said to be good value for investors
The value of sporting estates has increased spectacularly over the past 20 years, according to latest figures.

Property consultants CKD Galbraith are expected to show that hunting, shooting and fishing estates are better value for investors than the stock market.

The news has defied critics' warning that as land reform laws were passed by the Scottish Parliament the value of sporting estates would plummet.

They claimed investors would be put off by communities' right to buy.

Critics also claimed the proposals were "Stalinist" and a "Mugabe-style land grab".

However CKD Galbraith, which specialises in estate sales and management, is expected to reveal that investment in these estates has outperformed even the FTSE 100 index.

Land reform campaigner Jim Hunter said he was not surprised the earlier warnings of doom had not come true.
