Affordable homes from RAF housing
Elgin
Elgin has been provided with new affordable housing
Former RAF accommodation in Elgin has been transformed into affordable homes.

Moray Council and Moray Housing Partnership secured 2m to buy 53 Ministry of Defence properties in the town's Pinefield area.

The houses, which were used by personnel at nearby RAF Kinloss and Lossiemouth, will be available for rent to local people and families.

Communities Scotland, the Scottish Executive's housing and regeneration agency, provided the funding.

Moray Council is to buy 23 more properties and Grampian Housing Association seven others to provide further affordable housing.

Housing pressures

Communities Minister Malcolm Chisholm said: "I welcome this innovative approach in Moray. It is an excellent example of local organisations coming together and looking creatively at opportunities to increase the supply of housing.

"I am very pleased that this collaborative effort will make a real difference by providing homes that people in Elgin need."

Jill Stewart, Moray Council's chief housing officer, added: "Elgin is one of the areas in Moray where there are acute housing pressures - both for affordable rented accommodation and low cost home ownership.

"This project is particularly welcome as it provides 60 affordable rented homes, as well as opportunities for existing tenants or applicants for housing to take a first step into home ownership."
