Mr Salmond is currently the MP for Banff and Buchan |
SNP leader Alex Salmond has taken his first step towards standing as a Holyrood candidate. His candidacy for next year's Scottish Parliament elections was endorsed by the local SNP constituency association in Inverurie.
Mr Salmond, currently the MP for Banff and Buchan, will stand as an MSP for the north east constituency of Gordon.
In an address to party members, Mr Salmond set out his priorities for an SNP-led administration.
He said the endorsement was the first step towards becoming MSP for Gordon and first minister for Scotland.
'Our future'
He also told the constituency association: "We have seen what devolution is able to deliver.
"We have witnessed its shortcomings and know there is massive room for improvement.
"First and foremost, therefore, I am coming back to the Scottish Parliament to shake it up and sort things out.
"No-one owes Scotland a living. No one else is going to sort out our problems. Our future is in our own hands."
