Visitors can watch wildlife through the newly installed camera

A wildlife watching camera has been set up covering the Castle Field wetland and Wigtown Bay Nature Reserve.

It will be used to beam back live pictures of birdlife and other animals to the visitor room at the Wigtown County Buildings.

The previous project providing coverage of an osprey nest brought thousands of visitors to the building.

"Wigtown Bay is the largest local nature reserve in Britain, it was felt that it needed something like this camera to encapsulate the sheer scale of it," said Tommy Donnelly of Scottish Natural Heritage.

"This new camera is superb. It is often difficult to get people close to wildlife and the creation of Castle Field wetland and this camera has given people the chance to get nearer to the wildlife of Wigtown Bay."
