Councillors will meet at City Chambers on Thursday |
Unison has warned of hundreds of job losses due to budget cuts at Scotland's largest local authority. The public service union said proposed cuts to meet equal pay claims will cost an estimated 350 jobs and hit services.
Glasgow City Council predicts a cut of 294 jobs excluding teachers but said there would be no redundancies or effect on frontline services.
Councillors will discuss proposed cuts amounting to more than 30m on Thursday and set new council tax rates.
Planned cuts already announced include a 15% reduction in residential care places for children.
The local authority is instead looking at increases in fostering.
Meals on wheels will be replaced with a once-a-week delivery of frozen meals.
Another proposal includes closing museums every Monday and reducing opening hours at leisure centres on public holidays.
Elsewhere, six out-of-school care services could be transferred to the voluntary sector.
Equal pay
Unison Glasgow Branch Secretary David O' Connor said: "These are cuts and job losses which will put ever increasing pressure on our members as they continue to try to deliver quality services.
"Some of the most vulnerable members in our communities will be hit hardest."
The budget proposals come as Glasgow City Council tries to meet an equal pay claim for 10,300 employees.
The local authority said there would be no redundancies and reductions would come from vacancies, turnover and alternative employments.
