The M74 extension will stretch five miles across south east Glasgow |
Campaigners fighting the extension of the M74 motorway in Glasgow have staged a sponsored race along the route of the planned link. Joint Action Against the M74 (Jam74) were raising funds for a legal appeal against the motorway plan.
A Jam74 spokesman said teams used different forms of transport, including walking, cycling and sailing.
The Scottish Executive announced last year that it was going ahead with the 500m five-mile extension.
The route is planned to link the existing M74 to the Kingston Bridge.
Ministers are pushing ahead with the extension against the recommendation of a public inquiry.
The executive insists the scheme will ease congestion, improve the competitiveness of the west of Scotland, and could create jobs.
Jam74 believes it will increase traffic and pollution and have questioned the economic benefits.
