A 300m "masterplan" to redevelop Scotland's largest business park has been approved by planners. The revamp of the Eurocentral site in North Lanarkshire will widen its use from its original industrial focus and could create more than 4,000 jobs.
The plans for the 650-acre site include offices and a hotel as well as industrial and warehouse space.
Park spokesman Mark Shaw said: "This will be a highly desirable place in which to work."
Eurocentral is located in the heart of Lanarkshire's 'Golden Triangle', between the M74 and M8.
Mr Shaw, director of Tritax Assets Ltd, the company representing the site owners, added: "This consent signals a new era of revitalisation for the whole area, which will result in a greater diversity of jobs and a vibrant community through a wide mix of uses."
Liz Connolly, chief executive of Scottish Enterprise Lanarkshire, said she was impressed by the vision of the development.
She added: "This is something that will help further reinforce Lanarkshire's status as a real hive of economic activity.
"The area's appeal for both business and residential growth is rising steadily and this next step will no doubt make Lanarkshire an even more attractive prospect for relocation, hopefully bringing with it more jobs and improved economic potential all round."
Eurocentral has its own junction on the A8/M8 motorway as well as Scotland's first Eurofreight rail terminal.
