Around 30 breast pumps loaned to new mums have not been returned |
Yorkhill Hospital is appealing to the public to return breast pumps and paediatric walkers. The plea comes after hospital staff faced problems retrieving more than 18,000 of equipment loaned to families across Glasgow.
Families are being asked to check their cupboards to help locate around 30 missing breast pumps and 20 walkers.
A hospital spokeswoman said each item costs up to 600 and 70 respectively.
The hospital said it had a loan logging system in place, but that in many cases contact details had changed.
Staff said that the shortage of walkers, which are like small 'zimmers' with wheels, had been excarcebated by problems sourcing new equipment after previous suppliers stopped production.
Lesley Smith, head of physiotherapy at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, said: "The summer months are always busy for the hospital, and we are particularly hard pressed just now due to our efforts in tracing a suitable supplier."
The walkers are used to help children get back on their feet after illness or injury.
Breast pumps are given to women who have premature or sick babies, as well as to women who experience problems with breastfeeding.
Breastfeeding support nurse Rosemary Forbes said: "It's easy to forget about the breast pump, or tuck it away on a shelf to return later. We're hoping this message will get people digging into their cupboards."
