The child safety vest attaches to a seat belt |
A Scottish company is launching a special safety vest for children travelling in cars and minibuses. It is hoped the invention will cut the number of children who are injured in road accidents.
Hugh Thomson, from Wishaw, developed the Protectavest to keep his four grandchildren safe in his car.
Mr Thomson is launching the jacket at Motherwell's Fir Park stadium. He hopes football teams and minibuses travelling to matches will use the devices.
The vest, which is like a body warmer, is designed to be worn over seatbelts, holding the belt securely in the correct position.
It keeps the passenger sitting up straight and can help people with disabilities who may be prone to fits.
The Thomson Protectavest has already received interest from organisations overseas.
It is estimated that about 380 children were killed or seriously injured in road accidents in Scotland in 2004.
