One of the most recognisable images by Scottish artist Jack Vettriano looks set to fetch about 500,000 at auction. His oil painting Dance Me To The End Of Love was carried into Edinburgh's Harvey Nichols store on Friday ahead of a forthcoming public exhibition.
The painting in print form is one of the world's best selling posters, but the original has rarely been seen.
The canvas was bought by a Scots art fan in 1998 and remained in the woman's private collection until now.
The work will go on display at Harvey Nichols for three weeks from next week before going under the hammer at Shapes Auctioneers in the Scottish capital on Saturday, 4 March.
It has been valued at between 300,000 and 500,000.
Shapes director Richard Longwill said: "The fact that the original painting has been seldom seen adds a frisson to the sale."
Self-taught Vettriano has been shunned by the traditional art world, but the Fife-born artist took the scene by storm in April 2004 when another celebrated picture from the same period, The Singing Butler, sold for 744,800 - a record for a Scottish painting.
