The Beach Boulevard could be closed off at night |
A public consultation is getting under way on controversial proposals to close Aberdeen's Beach Boulevard to vehicles at night. Councillors want to close the road near the city centre to thwart so-called Bouley Bashers - young drivers with modified cars who gather in the area.
Locals have complained their lives are being made a misery but some businesses have objected to the proposal.
The consultation begins on Friday and will run for three weeks.
Young drivers who meet along the boulevard are blamed for revving engines, blaring music, racing and erratic driving.
First Minister Jack McConnell visited the boulevard last year when it became the first area in Scotland to be targeted using anti-social behaviour dispersal laws.
The order was lifted after a six-month period.
Aberdeen City Council wants to close the boulevard at night to all vehicles except emergency vehicles and local residents.
