Broken main beside gas blast home
Edinburgh explosion
The blast caused extensive damage
A fracture has been found in a low pressure gas main outside the scene of an explosion in Edinburgh.

Student Ross Gray, 20, received extensive burns in the blast in the Buckstone area of the capital on 29 November. Mr Gray is still in hospital.

A Health and Safety Executive spokesman said that a section of main had been taken away for further examination.

He said it could still be a number of weeks before final conclusions could be drawn about the cause.

On Tuesday, Scotland Gas Networks disclosed that more than 100 metres of piping in the area was to be replaced as a reassurance for local residents.

Mr Gray's condition in hospital was said to be satisfactory.

He had been inside the two-storey, semi-detached property at the time, but was found outside, suffering from burns to 50% of his body.
