Scotland secures rail call centre
Call centre worker
The new call centre will employ 50 people
First ScotRail has promised to site a new customer call centre in Scotland, creating 50 jobs.

The train operator said it was bucking the trend for UK businesses to site such facilities overseas to save money.

The company agreed to open a call centre as part of the franchise deal to run Scotland's rail passenger services. The exact location has not been chosen.

The existing customer relations operation in Glasgow will be shut and its six staff offered other positions.

The services on offer at the centre, which will open this summer, will include;

  • ticket sales

  • reservations

  • journey planning

  • assistance for disabled travellers

  • and customer relations.

Managing director Mary Dickson said: "The new centre will provide passengers with enhanced levels of customer service seven days a week.

"It's important to us that passengers who telephone us are assisted by knowledgeable staff who have personal experience of travelling within Scotland and throughout the UK."
