Poll findings have highlighted new fears over climate change |
Most people in Scotland back beefed up measures aimed at curbing greenhouse gases, according to a poll for environmental campaigners. The survey for the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in Scotland suggests nine out of 10 Scots are in favour of a crackdown.
As many as 50% of those questioned supported get-tough moves against industrial emissions which are said to cause climate change.
A WWF spokesman argued the poll showed the need for "much stronger" powers.
Findings indicated that 85% of people quizzed wanted to see more government cash pumped into renewable energy schemes, such as wind farms.
Almost half of those polled believed changing weather patterns would cause serious problems such as flooding, storms or droughts in their lifetime.
WWF's Richard Dixon said: "This poll clearly shows that the public support much stronger action to tackle climate change.
"Politicians have been guilty of a lot of rhetoric on climate change and very little action so far."
He added: "It is vital the next government makes the right decisions and takes real action over the next parliamentary term."
About 200 people across Scotland were quizzed for the survey between 15-18 March.
