One of Scotland's wealthiest men is helping set up training schemes to improve the country's schools. Tom Hunter is investing �100,000 in a �500,000 joint project with the Scottish Executive.
A team of experts will be set up to research training methods around the world and arrange courses for heads and council education staff.
The executive and the Hunter Foundation are also putting a further �500,000 into new leadership projects.
This follows a successful pilot in Skye last year, when 90 senior education staff took part in a headteacher leadership academy programme.

Education Minister Peter Peacock said: "The importance of the quality of school leadership cannot be underestimated.
"Excellence in leadership makes all the difference to a child's success at school and in later life."
The executive said that the aim of the other scheme was to ensure headteachers, directors of education and other senior staff had access to "world-class thinking and leadership development opportunities".
Mr Hunter said: "This is about again raising our overall game in education to ensure Scotland leads the world in delivering the very best in leadership.
Educational initiatives
"The small, highly effective team of professionals will not be a delivery vehicle, more an organisation that can determine gaps in the marketplace and define solutions to those gaps.
"In addition it will provide a dynamic source of knowledge to the provider in the pursuit of excellence for all."
The Hunter Foundation was set up by the former Sports Division tycoon and his wife in 1998 to invest in enterprise and educational initiatives aimed largely at children.
