Parents in a small Highland community have offered to build a new school rather than see the existing one close. Highland Council has said it cannot afford major repairs at Roy Bridge primary and that one option is to shut the school and move pupils elsewhere.
It is now considering the offer from parents, who said they would raise the cash to build new premises and then lease them back to the local authority.
One bank has promised to lend the money if the council takes up the offer.
The parents have already had some experience, refurbishing the adjoining schoolhouse for use as a nursery.
The existing school consists of an original Victorian building and a number of old temporary classrooms.
If it was to close, the 27 pupils would be switched to another primary school three miles away.
