A pipe band played Scotland the Brave as the coffin of a two-year-old boy who was shot in the head was led into church for his funeral Mass.

Andrew Morton was fatally injured as he left his home in the Easterhouse area of Glasgow with his brother to buy chips on 2 March.

More than 300 mourners joined his family at St Dominic's Roman Catholic Church in Craigend to say goodbye.

There were large floral tributes, including one of a yellow tractor.

Andrew, who lost his fight for life at the city's Southern General Hospital two days after the incident near his home, was buried at Riddrie Park Cemetery.

A 27-year-old man has appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court charged with murder.

Andrew's parents Andy Morton, 30, and Sharon McMillan, 34, led the mourners.

Addressing Andrew's parents, Father Tom Magill said: "Dear Sharon and Andy, all of us have come together today for Andrew's funeral mass to offer you and the family the support of our presence, our prayers and our love.

"Our hearts go out to you and the children - Cheryl, Brian, Sammy Joe and Calvin Larsson - at this time of utter tragedy in your lives.

"As we thank God for Andrew's all too short life, we ask our Heavenly Father to turn our anger to peace, our grief to joy and death to eternal life.

"We are all here with you today but none of us can really know the depth and the intensity of your pain, a grief and a loss which no words can explain.

"Andrew has had his life taken from him and the shadow of death has lingered here in Craigend these two weeks past."

The psalm The Lord's My Shepherd was sung following a reading from the Book of Isaiah.

Strathclyde Fire Brigade's senior divisional officer Charlie McGrattan, councillor Joe Lowe and councillor Catherine McMaster from the fire board were among the mourners.

Four members of Strathclyde Fire Brigade White Watch from Easterhouse attended the service, taking with them a large floral tribute for Andrew.

Father Magill told Andrew's family: "Already, you know the goodness of people both in the neighbourhood and beyond.

"Not only have the local people gathered around you, but you have had messages of sympathy from as far away as Singapore, support from the Grimason family whose son was shot dead in Turkey, a gift from the prisoners in Kilmarnock prison.

"These are just a few examples of the messages of tenderness which you have received, and example of how goodness reaches into darkness.

"Andrew in his death has touched the lives of so many people."

The congregation sang the hymn Walk With Me as the small white coffin was led out of the church and back into the hearse.

Inside the vehicle the words Son, Brother, Grandson and mucker - Andrew's favourite word - were spelled out in green and white flowers.

Mark Bonini has appeared in court accused of firing an air weapon or similar instrument at the child, whereby he died after being struck on the head by a pellet.

He also faces two other charges, of firing an air weapon at a woman and a firefighter and at a street light and windows.
