New university campus is approved
Councillors have given their final approval for a new university campus to be built in East Lothian.

The 35-acre green belt site at Craighall, near Musselburgh, will be the new base for Queen Margaret University College.

More than 4,000 staff and students will be moved to the new campus from the university's existing city sites at Corstorphine and Leith by autumn 2007.

The 50m development has been described as "a campus in the park".

Natural light and ventilation are key elements in the design of the accommodation as a way of reducing power consumption.

The facilities will range from academic buildings and student residences to a sports centre.
