Switch casts doubt on centre jobs
Vertex sign
Work is being sought for the 180 staff in Dingwall
Nearly 200 call centre jobs in the Highlands are under threat because of a transfer of work to India.

Employer Vertex is switching the handling of national rail inquires for Trainline to its operation in New Dehli next year.

The company employs 260 full-time staff at its call centre in Dingwall and 178 in Edinburgh, where a further 125 are employed on flexible contracts.

Consultation will start shortly with the TSSA union.

Talks will also be held with all employees at both centres along with the workers employed on temporary contracts.

Company chiefs said that new work has already been secured for all full-time staff in Edinburgh and about 80 employed in the north.

They added that they now have until May next year to secure new employment for the 180 staff in Dingwall who will be left without jobs because of the transfer of work abroad.
