Emergency drill on Glasgow subway
Underground train
Sunday's emergency training did not affect services
Emergency procedures on the Glasgow subway were put to the test on Sunday in the first safety exercise since the July bombings in London.

The drill involved a mock de-railing between Bridge Street and West Street stations.

About 40 Red Cross volunteers acted as passengers and police, fire and ambulance crews rushed to the scene.

A spokesman for Strathclyde Passenger Transport said the exercise was planned before the London attacks.

He said: "What we have been doing tonight is essentially testing the capabilities of the fire brigade, police and ambulance services, along with our own emergency plan.

"The emergency procedure that we were practising tonight involved helping passengers off the train and bringing appropriate equipment into the tunnel system.

"Obviously the skills practised tonight would be applicable under any emergency circumstances."

The exercise did not affect "real life" passengers as it was held outwith Sunday opening times.
