The final incident took place in a Renfrew pub

Five people were injured in the attacks on Wednesday in Paisley and Renfrew, and two men are still in hospital.

Strathclyde Police said on Friday that a 34-year-old man had been arrested in connection with the incidents and was being held in police custody.

A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal. It is expected that the man will appear in court on Monday.

The first stabbing took place at about 1600 GMT on Wednesday in Paisley.

A 29-year-old man had got off a bus and was going down steps leading from Lochfield Road to Pine Street when he was attacked.

A 30-year-old man was then stabbed near the Piazza shopping centre.

The third victim was 55-year-old David Caldwell, who was walking along Paisley High Street.

He remains in a stable condition in the Royal Alexandra Hospital, Paisley.

Jim Porter, 44, was then approached by a man after he got off a bus on Marjory Drive in the Gallowhill area and struck with a knife.

Finally, Richard Jennings, 26, was stabbed at The Kind Man's pub, Hairst Street, Renfrew, at about 2125 GMT.
