Proposals for the racecourse have proved controversial |
Officials at Musselburgh racecourse have sent a new application to the local authority requesting permission for an all-weather, floodlit, track. But opponents of the 12m scheme, which is said to be the first of its kind in Scotland, have said they will continue their opposition to the development.
Racing bosses want to change the existing turf track, so meetings would not be affected by the weather.
East Lothian planning officials will now scrutinise the latest proposals.
Backers of the scheme, which would enable racing after dusk, have revised their plans in the light of previous complaints.
Anger has focussed on potential noise and light pollution and impact on the historic golf course in the middle of the circuit.
It is said to be the oldest in the world still being played regularly.
Even if the plans are approved, construction work will not start until next year.
