Festive Santa run to bear gifts
Santas walking in West Princes Street Gardens, Edinburgh
About 3,000 volunteers are needed to break the world-record
Thousands of volunteers are being asked to don Santa suits and running shoes and help break a yuletide world-record for charity this Christmas.

Organisers of Edinburgh's celebrations are asking the public to take part in the Great Scottish Santa Run on Sunday, 12 December.

Nearly 3,000 people are needed to dress up as Santa Claus and break the record of 2,685 held by a Swedish town.

The run is due to take place in the capital's West Princes Street Gardens.

Festive fun run

The event, part of the city's Capital Christmas, will raise money for the charity When You Wish Upon a Star.

All the money raised will go towards granting the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses.

The UK-based organisation takes 400 terminally-ill children to Lapland each year to meet Father Christmas in person.

Director of Unique Events, Pete Irvine, which is behind the event, said: "I would ask everyone to come along, join in the Santa run, and help bring a lot of happiness into the lives of some very special children at Christmas."
