There had been complaints from residents in the area |
An Edinburgh prostitute has been banned from entering the Leith Links area after complaints from residents. The city council has obtained a temporary anti-social behaviour order (Asbo) against the unnamed woman.
The local authority said it went to court after gathering evidence against a number of prostitutes working in the area over several months.
Residents and people working in Leith Links had complained that their quality of life was being affected.
The council, which secured the order at Edinburgh Sheriff Court earlier this week, will have to return to court later in the year to secure a permanent Asbo.
Quality of life
Under the terms of the order the woman will not be allowed to enter the Leith Links area at any time of the day or night.
However, she will be able to use the facilities offered by the Scot-Pep sex workers project if she uses a certain route at certain times.
Donald Urquhart, head of the council's anti-social behaviour division, said: "This sends out a clear message - the council will continue to take action against individuals who reduce the quality of life for the majority.
"Whilst we will offer support to people who have an Asbo issued against them, ensuring safe communities for all is our priority."
