Thousands of Scots are recovering from strokes |
Stroke patients in Glasgow are set to become the first in Scotland to be offered an annual check-up. The new service will offer them therapy if they have not recovered as well as they should - no matter how long it is since they had their stroke.
About 72,000 people in Scotland are currently recovering from a stroke.
However, NHS services for sufferers are improving. Scots are twice as likely to be admitted to a specialist stroke unit than patients in England.
Research has shown that well-organised stroke services save lives, reduce disability and save money.
Scotland has one of the highest rates of stroke in the world.
