Check-ups for stroke sufferers
Man being resuscitated
Thousands of Scots are recovering from strokes
Stroke patients in Glasgow are set to become the first in Scotland to be offered an annual check-up.

The new service will offer them therapy if they have not recovered as well as they should - no matter how long it is since they had their stroke.

About 72,000 people in Scotland are currently recovering from a stroke.

However, NHS services for sufferers are improving. Scots are twice as likely to be admitted to a specialist stroke unit than patients in England.

Research has shown that well-organised stroke services save lives, reduce disability and save money.

Scotland has one of the highest rates of stroke in the world.
