Five Scottish companies have made it onto a list of the UK's 100 biggest private firms. For the second year, Grampian Country Food Group is Scotland's top company on the Sunday Times KPMG Top Track 100, which ranks the companies by sales.
The Aberdeen-based firm recorded sales of 1.5bn for 2003, narrowly beating car dealer Arnold Clark.
Property developer The Miller Group came in third, followed by logistics company ASCO and garage firm Kwik-Fit.
Scottish roots
The five companies all have headquarters in Scotland and had combined sales of 4.5bn in the latest financial year.
Exactly where the five Scottish companies appear in the top 100 will be revealed in this weekend's edition of the Sunday Times.
Most firms on the league table are based in London (30) and the Southeast of England (27).
The remainder come from the Midlands (21), the north of England (11), Scotland (5), the east of England (4) and the south west of England (2).
The combined sales of all 100 companies on the league table is 89bn, with the firms employing almost 858,000 people.
League leader
The Sunday Times KPMG Top Track 100 is the only league table of its kind in the UK and has been compared to the US's Forbes Private 500.
Iain McLaren, senior partner in Scotland for KPMG said he hoped to see more Scottish entries in the table in years to come.
He said: "Unquoted companies of all sizes are vital to the success of the economy and the Top Track 100 highlights the quality of privately-owned companies in the UK.
"It's great to see some companies from our region featuring among the best, though it would be even better to see more."
