Child deaths convictions reviewed
Angela Cannings
Angela Cannings' case sparked a review of cases in Scotland
A review of 22 Scottish cases involving murder or culpable homicide of babies has found no miscarriages of justice.

The Crown Office launched the inquiry following the case of Angela Cannings, who was cleared of murdering her two babies in December last year.

Mrs Cannings, 40, from Wiltshire, had been convicted of smothering seven-week-old Jason and 18-week-old Matthew.

But appeal judges ruled that evidence from expert witnesses in the case was unsound.

Mrs Cannings always maintained that the two boys died of cot death.

Following the appeal verdict, 22 cases in Scotland over the past decade were reviewed, a Crown Office spokeswoman said.

"There are no cases in Scotland affected by the issues raised by the Angela Cannings case," she said.

The Court of Appeal's decision triggered a review of 250 cases involving parents convicted of killing their babies in England and Wales.
