The team could be called out to deal with noisy neighbours |
Edinburgh City Council is planning to set up Scotland's first noise warden team. The 14-strong squad of officers will have the power to impose on-the-spot fines of 100 on householders who refuse to turn down the noise.
A new law giving councils the power to fine noisy neighbours will come into effect in February next year.
Edinburgh City Council has submitted a bid to a 1.8m fund created to help councils set up noise warden schemes.
Under its proposals, the 14 wardens would be on duty all day and most of the night.
They will have other duties, but could be called in to warn noisy neighbours about their behaviour.
If the disruption continues, the wardens could hand out on-the-spot fines of 100.
