Bootleg CDs, DVDs and clothes were seized

The raid was carried out by police and trading standards Officers from Glasgow City Council.

They took away more than 6,700 counterfeit items.

Fake goods included copies of the Celtic v Barcelona game and DVDs of "The Whole 10 Yards" - not yet released in the UK.

Seized property also included clothing with the wrong trademarks.

'Zero tolerance'

Superintendent Tim Love, of Strathclyde Police , said: "The operation at the weekend was successful in cracking down on illegal trading in the Barras market.

"Trading in counterfeit goods costs legitimate traders and shoppers thousands pounds each year and we will continue to work closely with our partners to stamp out this problem."

A council spokesman said: "The weekend raids are part of an ongoing programme focussing on returning the Barras area back to legitimate trading by legitimate traders."

He added: "A zero tolerance attitude has been adopted by the council which also includes tackling litter, clearing emergency vehicle routes and additional regulation of licence holders."

Robert O'Neill, director of council environmental protection services said: "The council, working closely with Strathclyde Police and other agencies including the Barras Trust, will continue to target criminal activity in the area until the market is returned to a legitimate trading status.

"The amount seized more than justifies our stance and action on this," he added.

Suspects have been reported to the procurator fiscal.
