MacBraynewave boosts ferry trade
CalMac ferry
Last year CalMac broke the five million passenger barrier
Ferry company Caledonian MacBrayne is to launch a television advertising campaign for the first time in its 150-year history.

The adverts are designed to boost the number of tourist passengers using the firm's services.

The idea is to win over younger people who might use a CalMac ferry to take a short break.

The ads will appear on television, using the slogan "Have a Caledonian McBraynewave".

The company began in the Victorian era, with pleasure steamers ferrying trippers "doon the water".

Since then it has become the lifeline transport service for the Hebrides while serving commuter ferry traffic on the Clyde coast.

But now CalMac's passage has turned full circle and it is trying to attract a younger set of potential short-break tourists on to its 26 routes.

Last year the company broke the five million passenger barrier.

It hopes the TV campaign will continue that trend - increasing tourism in the destinations it serves.
